The Supreme Court of India has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed 26 innocent lives—25 of them being tourists and one a local resident. The Court described the attack as a “cowardly” and “inhuman” act that deeply shook the nation.

“This diabolical act of mindless violence has shaken the conscience of all and is a stark reminder of the brutality and inhumanity that terrorism unleashes,”

read the resolution passed by the Full Court.

The resolution expressed the Court’s deep sorrow and solidarity with the victims. It paid tribute to the lives lost in the attack and extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving families.

“Supreme Court of India pays its respectful tribute to the innocent lives snuffed out brutally and prematurely while also expressing its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May the departed souls rest in peace and may those who were injured recover soon.”

The resolution further highlighted that the attack on peaceful tourists in Kashmir—referred to as the “Crown Jewel of India”—was a direct assault on humanity and the value of life. The Court condemned the violence in the strongest terms.

“The attack on tourists, who were merely enjoying the natural beauty of the Crown Jewel of India i.e. Kashmir, is undoubtedly an affront to the values of humanity and the sanctity of life and this Court strongly condemns the same.”

In a gesture of respect and unity, Judges, lawyers, and registry staff of the Supreme Court observed a two-minute silence at 2 PM to honor the victims and support their families.

The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) also passed a resolution denouncing the attack. It expressed support for the victims and emphasized the importance of peace and national unity.

“It is our earnest prayer that peace, unity and harmony prevail so that our nation may continue to progress together in strength and brotherhood,” stated SCAORA.
