In a step to handle the rising number of pending bail applications, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has accepted the request of the High Court Bar Association to begin court proceedings an hour earlier.
In a letter dated May 14, the Bar Association mentioned,
"Several requests have been received from members of the Bar requesting early disposal of bail applications listed before the summer vacation."

To support this request, the Association asked the Judges dealing with criminal matters to consider starting court work at 9 AM instead of the usual 10 AM. The main aim is to help in quicker hearing and disposal of bail matters.
Later in the evening, Gagandeep Jammu, Secretary of the Bar Association, confirmed that the Hon’ble Judges have kindly agreed to this request. This decision is intended to help those in custody who are waiting for their bail hearings.

He further stated,
"To facilitate this, the Court has agreed to open additional slots to hear such matters. This special arrangement will continue until the onset of the summer vacation, beginning June 1, in order to avoid undue delays and long adjournments."
