The Central Government on May 1, 2025, officially notified the transfer of Justice Kumbhajadala Manmadha Rao from the Andhra Pradesh High Court to the Karnataka High Court.
The notification was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India. The order states:
"In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Dr. Justice Kumbhajadala Manmadha Rao, Judge, Andhra Pradesh High Court, to be a Judge of the Karnataka High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Karnataka High Court."
The Supreme Court Collegium had earlier recommended the transfer of seven High Court Judges. This decision was made to "infuse inclusivity and diversity" and "to strengthen the quality of administration of justice."
The official communication regarding the transfer was sent to all concerned authorities, including the Registrars General of the Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka High Courts, the Secretaries to the Governors and Chief Ministers of both states, and other relevant departments.

Justice K Manmadha Rao has been directed to assume charge at the Karnataka High Court as per the terms of the notification.
