In a significant step toward modernizing judicial operations, the Jharkhand High Court has distributed Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 devices to 496 judicial officers serving in civil courts across the state. The initiative is part of a larger plan to strengthen the judiciary’s digital infrastructure and was implemented based on the recommendation of the High Court’s Computer and Digitization Committee. It received approval from the Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.

The tablet distribution ceremony took place within the premises of the High Court in Ranchi, just before the summer vacation. The event was attended by key dignitaries including Justice Ananda Sen, Chairman of the Computer and Digitization Committee, and committee members Justice Gautam Kumar Choudhary and Justice Arun Kumar Rai. The Justices personally handed over the devices to several judicial officers stationed in Ranchi. The Registrar General and other senior officials, including the Central Project Coordinator, were also present.

Justice Ananda Sen emphasized the value of these devices for judicial efficiency.

“The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 is equipped with advanced features such as Speech-to-Text functionality, AI integration, and modern productivity tools. These capabilities will greatly assist judicial officers in carrying out their responsibilities,” he stated.

The deployment of these tablets comes at a critical time, especially as many district courts are experiencing a shortage of stenographers. The built-in Speech-to-Text feature of the tablets is expected to significantly ease the process of drafting and dictating court orders and judgments. This technological solution is aimed at making judicial work more seamless and less dependent on manual transcription.

The Galaxy Tab S9 model chosen for distribution includes a high-resolution Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, support for the S Pen for precise note-taking, and a powerful Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 processor. These features are complemented by strong security measures and long battery life, making the tablet well-suited for demanding professional use.
