The Delhi High Court has provided interim relief to Ishrat Jahan, a widow residing in the Batla House area of Delhi, by ordering a status quo on her property that was facing demolition.
The order came from Vacation Judge Justice Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar, who directed that no coercive action be taken regarding the property. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on July 10.
“Maintain status quo on the petitioner’s property,” the Court instructed, addressing the concern that demolition could proceed without due process.

The petition was filed after the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) issued a demolition notice on May 26 for her residence located at Khasra No. 283, Batla House, Jamia Nagar. The petitioner requested the court to stay the demolition and protect her legal rights.
During the hearing, DDA’s counsel informed the court that they would file an affidavit explaining the actions planned for properties in the Batla House locality. It was also noted that a demarcation report could be obtained from the Deputy Director’s office in compliance with a Supreme Court order dated May 7.
“The DDA shall file its affidavit within three weeks. Any objections may be submitted within one week thereafter,” the Court directed.
The petitioner was represented by Advocate Fahad Khan. Representing the DDA were Standing Counsel Ms. Prabhsahay Kaur and Advocate Ms. Harshita Rai. For the Government of NCT of Delhi (GNCTD), Advocate Mr. Tushar Sannu appeared along with Mr. Sourav Verma.
