Delhi High Court Directs CLAT UG 2025 Merit List Revision After Accepting Objections on Answer Key

In a significant development concerning the CLAT UG 2025 exam, the Delhi High Court has ordered the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) to revise and republish the final merit list of selected candidates within four weeks. This comes after the Court accepted a few objections raised against the answer key.

A division bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela heard a series of petitions challenging the CLAT UG 2025 results. These petitions were related to the entrance exam conducted in December 2024 for undergraduate admissions to various National Law Universities.

“...we direct the respondent/Consortium to revise the marksheet and to re-publish/renotify the final list of selected candidates within 04 weeks from date,” — Delhi High Court

The Court found errors in four questions from the CLAT UG exam and directed that appropriate benefits be extended to affected candidates. However, it also clarified that no error was found in the answers to 12 other questions that were also under scrutiny.

The Court emphasized that the revised evaluation must be applied not only to the petitioners but to all eligible candidates who attempted the affected questions.

“The Consortium shall apply the Court's evaluation to each of the appellant and petitioners, the candidates who may have attempted certain questions as also all those in respect of whom certain benefits can be granted.” — Court Order

The judgment was reserved on April 9, and another set of petitions related to the CLAT PG 2025 results remains pending before the same bench.

These legal challenges were initially filed in various High Courts across India, including Delhi, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Bombay, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab & Haryana. They were later transferred to the Delhi High Court after a transfer petition was filed by the Consortium and accepted by the Supreme Court.

Earlier, a single judge bench of the Delhi High Court had found two incorrect answers in the CLAT UG 2025 paper and directed the Consortium to revise the petitioners’ results. When this order was appealed, the division bench noted that it did not find any error in the single judge's observations.

“Prima facie, we do not find any error in the findings of the single judge.” — Division Bench Observation

This ruling is expected to impact the rankings of several candidates and ensure a fair evaluation process for CLAT UG 2025 aspirants.
